India's leading carmakers - Maruti Suzuki, Volkswagen and Nissan Motor - posted highest-ever sales in March, boosted by strong pre-budget demand from customers. Maruti's domestic sales of 1.12 lakh cars in March 2012 are its highest-ever monthly tally in the 29-year history in India.
The previous high in domestic sales was 110,424 cars in March 2011. Its total sales - including exports - also scaled to an all-time high tally of 1.25 lakh cars, up 3.28% from the same month last year. The company has projected a 10% increase in sales for the new fiscal, driven by higher demand for its diesel cars.
