BSE Sensex down in morning trade on weak Asian cues

The benchmark BSE Sensex was trading down over 40 points in morning trade on Wednesday following sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend in other Asian markets.

At 10.09 am, Sensex was down 45.46 points at 20809.46. Similarly, Nifty was down 15.35 points at 6186.50 during the same time.

Brokers said sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend in the Asian region following overnight weakness at the US market mainly influenced the trading sentiment.

The 30-share index, which had lost 43.09 points in the previous session, fell further by 39.47 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 20,815.45, led by losses in stocks of banking, oil and gas, auto and FMCG sectors.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty declined by 13.75 points, or 0.22 per cent, to 6,188.10.
In the Asian region, Japan's Nikkei was down by 1.46 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng by 0.80 per cent in early trade on Wednesday. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.59 per cent lower on Tuesday.
