Toyota Kirloskar to up capacity by 40% this year

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Wednesday said it is ramping up its production capacity to 2,10,000 units per year from the current 1,50,000 units in the wake of strong demand for its vehicles like the Etios sedan launched late last year.

The annual production capacity at Toyota Kirloskar's first plant will be increased to 90,000 units from 80,000 units, while the capacity at the second plant, where the Etios is currently manufactured, will go up to 1,20,000 units from the current 70,000 units, the company said.

The expansion will be carried out in a phased manner starting July 2011 and extending into the April-June quarter of 2012, Toyota Kirloskar said.
